In an interview with Darren Rovell on CNBC.com, IEAH Stables Co-President Michael Iavarone said Big Brown’s defeat in the Belmont Stakes (G1) cost the colt’s owners between $50- and $60-million.

Jockey Kent Desormeaux pulled up the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1) winner in the Belmont on June 7, which was won by 38.50-to-1 longshot Da’ Tara.

Iavarone also said that Big Brown would have commanded a $300,000 stud fee had he retired as a Triple Crown winner. Big Brown will stand the 2009 breeding season for an advertised stud fee of $65,000 at Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Kentucky.

IEAH Stables, a subsidiary of International Equine Acquisitions Holdings Inc., is run by Iavarone and Richard Schiavo.
